We offer antenatal care in co-operation with the obstetricians at Kings College Hospital and the community midwives. The midwives are based at Kings College Hospital and no longer hold a clinic at the practice.

The antenatal care is shared between the GP’s and the Midwives and you will see both at various times throughout the pregnancy. The GP’s can offer both routine antenatal care as well as treating any illnesses what might occur whilst you are pregnant. Refer to Antenatal Shared Care Protocol for more information on antenatal appointments.

Your baby’s first primary immunisations are due at 8 weeks. There is more information on the childhood immunisations available on the NHS website. These can be arranged by appointment with our practice nurses.

Our district nurses are based at Akerman Health Centre and can be contacted on 020 3049 4020

Our health visitors give advice on health care for babies, under 5’s and their parents. They are based at West Norwood clinic and can be contacted by telephone on 020 8243 2060 Monday to Friday

Our nursing team offers the following services:

• Dressings, wound care and stitch removal.
• Ear syringing – wax-softening drops must be used 2-3 weeks prior to syringing, for further information on ear wax and irrigation, please speak to one of our nurses. If however, you are unsure of the cause of your ear problem you should see a doctor first. You can find more information here.
• Blood pressure monitoring – if you have a history of high blood pressure, you should have it monitored regularly. This can be taken through appointment with any of our nursing team.
• Childhood immunisations 
• Adult immunisation – routine and other immunisations, where there are specific needs or risk are also available. Telephone or book an appointment to discuss your requirements. Please note that we do not offer Hep B for employment purposes, this must be completed through occupational health services.
• Travel Health – vaccinations, malarial prevention and general travel advice is available. Please try to see the nurse at least 6 weeks before you travel. If you have a complicated itinerary, are staying for a long period of time or are backpacking please ask for advice as soon as possible.
• Blood tests – usually at the request of your GP are done by our phlebotomist.
• Sexually Transmitted Disease Screening
• Smear Tests
• Asthma & COPD Reviews
• Diabetes Reviews 
• Smoking Cessation – smoking cessation advice is offered by Yvonne Laine (the Health Care Assistant). Please book a double appointment for initial consultation with her.
• Family Planning Advice
• NHS Health Checks including BP, height and weight and a blood test.

• Flu / Pneumococcal / Shingles Vaccines
• Spirometry test

The Health Visitor will attend you shortly after you have had your baby to give advice and support about your baby’s needs and development. This visit is usually made 10 days after delivery.

When your new baby is 8 weeks old, you will receive an invite to come to the surgery for your postnatal check-up and your baby’s development check.

It is important to bear in mind that we and other local services may not be informed of the birth if your baby is not born at Kings. If you have not received an appointment by 8 weeks please contact the surgery.

Anyone travelling outside Western Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand should book an appointment with a nurse to discuss their travel plans. Our Practice Nurses can check if you need any vaccinations or other preventive measures (e.g. malaria tablets), and give general travel health advice.

Dr Lamb and colleagues hold a weekly clinic specifically for young patients registered here and elsewhere where you can discuss any issue that might be concerning you. These can include skin problems, sports injuries, immunisations, weight and diet, sexual health, contraception, relationships and much more.

One of our Practice Nurses is on hand to provide a range of services including asthma checks and treatment, wound dressings, stitch removal, sexual health advice, contraception, sexually transmitted infection screening, pregnancy testing, cervical cancer vaccination, weight and dietary advice, travel advice and vaccinations or just someone to talk to.

We now have a Counsellor from CAMHS working with us during the clinic to provide counselling.
